Rebel Without A Cause. Those were the days! Anyway, I thought I would Google "the history of the t-shirt" and I came up with some interesting tidbits. The roots of the t-shirt began in WWI when American troops noticed European soldiers outfitted in a comfortable and lightweight cotton undershirt which was a stark contrast to their wool uniforms. Becoming an instant hit with the soldiers for it's comfort, by WWII the t-shirt was a standard issued undergarment for the Army and the Navy. It wasn't until the Duke (John Wayne), Marlon Brando and James Dean shocked audiences wearing "their underwear" on the big screen that people started to look at the t-shirt in a new light. It became a contemporary symbol of rebellious youth. The 60's revamped the t-shirt using screen prints and tye dyes. Rock bands and professional sports groups saw the marketing potential by branding t-shirts with their lyrics and logos. The t-shirt is as big today as it was when it first came about in the twentieth century... and that's the history of the t-shirt. On the movie set of The Nanny Diaries, Scarlett Johanssen stepped out in a white Park Vogel Cap Sleeve Scoop Top proving that a t-shirt is always in style.
